SS Blitz 3 out of the Over G 4-2-5 Big Nickel package brings the strong safety off the edge as an extra rusher while the defense rotates into a Cover 3 zone shell behind it. The corners lock down the deep thirds while the underneath zone defenders (Mike, Will, and the nickel) fill the shallow and hook zones to take away quick hitters underneath the blitz. This is a five-man pressure look, not a pure man beater or a screen or RPO answer, and your primary read is the strong safety's rush lane first (make sure it wins outside or inside cleanly) before working to the deep third defenders to see if the quarterback is forced into a hurried throw against the zone shell.
Pre-snap, check for a single-high safety look combined with corners playing off; that confirms the Cover 3 shell is disguised well and the blitz should hit clean. Watch running back alignment; if the back releases immediately to the strong safety's rush lane, you may need to user the safety manually to avoid a free run being negated by a chip block. Post-snap, key the quarterback's eyes toward the flat and quick out routes since those are the first answers offenses use against zone pressure looks. This beats teams that rely on quick game and hitch or slant combinations because the underneath defenders squeeze those windows while the rush disrupts timing. It gets exposed by play-action rollouts and screens to the side vacated by the blitzing safety, so be ready to user a linebacker to spy or replace that void if you see run action or screen blocking develop.
Call this on early downs or second-and-medium when you want to disguise pressure without fully committing to man coverage behind it.
Pre-snap, check the offensive formation for trips or bunch looks that could isolate your underneath zone defenders and consider a pre-snap shift of the nickel to match numbers to the strength.
Use the SS blitz path as your primary pressure piece but be ready to spy or bail him into a shallow zone with a hot route if you see a hot route to the flat from the offense.
Sequence this with Ws Blitz 2 or Ws Blitz 3 from the same set so the quarterback cannot key on which second-level defender is coming, keeping the pre-snap picture consistent.
Pair with Cover 3 Buzz Match or Cover 3 Sky on other downs so your zone shell disguise stays uniform even when you are not sending extra pressure.
