Smash Fork H-Choice is a man and zone beater built around a smash concept to one side and a choice route from the H-back that reads the flow of the underneath defenders. The outside receiver runs a hitch or short curl while the inside receiver or slot works a corner route behind it, stretching the cornerback vertically and horizontally in classic smash fashion. The H-Choice route gives the offense a built-in answer versus both man and zone since the H-back can settle, sit, or break away from the nearest defender. Primary read progression starts with the smash concept to the boundary, then works to the H-Choice option if the corner route is capped or the underneath defender jumps the flat.
Watch for cornerback depth at the snap, a corner playing off coverage signals zone and opens up the hitch route for a quick easy completion If the flat defender or slot corner sinks with the corner route, the underneath hitch or the H-Choice sitting route should come open immediately Man coverage with the corner in the receiver's face is the green light to attack with the H-Choice route since it can break away from tight coverage Cover 3 with a hard flat defender jumping the smash concept can bait the quarterback into a costly throw, so check the H-Choice as a checkdown outlet Blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge require the quarterback to get through the progression fast, since the H-Choice route often uncovers quickest against blitz looks
Check the corner and safety alignment pre-snap to confirm whether you are getting a two-high shell or a single-high look, since the smash concept thrives against zone shells with soft corners
If the defense shows man coverage with the corner playing tight, prioritize the H-Choice route immediately since it has built-in separation tools against man leverage
Use motion or a quick glance at the flat defender to decide whether to throw the hitch underneath or go over the top with the corner route
This play works best on second and medium or third and short since the smash concept forces a horizontal stretch that is tough to defend with a single defender
Pair this call with Choice Z-Curl or Stick Spacing from the same set to keep the defense guessing between quick game and intermediate route combos, then mix in DBL Mtn HB Wk Toss to punish overaggressive linebackers flowing hard to stop the pass
