RPO Alert Bubble out of Shotgun Wing Stack Wk (12 personnel) reads the alley defender to decide between an inside zone run and a bubble screen to the stacked wing receivers. The diagram shows the running back taking a zone handoff path while the two stacked receivers to the boundary run a bubble concept with the outside man sitting flat and the inside man arcing to block the nearest flat defender. Your primary read is the alert key: if that flat/slot defender crashes down on the run action, pull and throw the bubble immediately, and if he stays wide to take away the bubble, hand it off and let the offensive line work the zone blocking scheme.
Watch the flat or overhang defender at the snap since his leverage tells you the entire concept before the ball is snapped. If he crashes hard downhill to fill the run gap, the offense will pull and throw the bubble, so a user controlled defender should immediately jump the flat route. If he sits wide protecting the bubble, the running back is getting the ball on zone, so linebackers need to fast flow and fill their run fits without hesitation. Two-high shells with soft corner alignment are vulnerable to the bubble since the alert defender is often occupied by run fit responsibility. Man coverage with press corners on the stacked receivers combined with an aggressive linebacker blitz can shut down both options, forcing a quick pre-snap alert for the QB to abort if the defense shows overload pressure to the bubble side.
Pre-snap, identify the overhang or slot defender on the bubble side since he is your entire alert key for this RPO.
If you see two high safeties with a soft corner playing off the stack, favor pulling the bubble for a free five to seven yard gain.
Against aggressive run fits or blitz-heavy fronts that walk a linebacker down into the box, keep the ball on the zone run since the alert defender is already gone.
Use quick hot route awareness: if the defense shows blitz off the edge pre-snap, get the ball out on the bubble before the pressure arrives.
Pair this play with RPO Zone Alert Bubble and RPO Read Bubble in the same set so the defense cannot key on your run action, forcing linebackers to hesitate and widening running lanes over time.
