Exit Spot Replace is a spot concept variant out of Shotgun Wing Stack Wk that uses the exit motion to displace defenders before working the classic spot combo underneath. The design pairs a corner or flat breaking route to occupy the boundary defender with an underlying spot route sitting in the void, while the replace element brings a secondary receiver into the vacated area for a layered read. This is a man beater against tight coverage and a zone beater versus underneath zone drops, with the primary progression starting on the flat or exit route to see if it pulls the defender, then working down to the spot sitting route, and finally to the replace receiver crossing into the void if the first two are covered.

Defensive Reads

Watch the flat defender or corner reaction to the exit motion, if he bites and follows across the formation the spot route sitting behind him is wide open Key the linebacker depth at the snap, shallow zone drops mean the spot route will be covered quickly so progress immediately to the replace route Identify Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells pre-snap since the underneath defenders in these shells tend to overreact to the exit motion, creating natural throwing lanes Look for a user controlled lurk defender sitting in the shallow zone, this play struggles against a smart user spy who ignores the exit motion and stays home on the spot route Beware of man coverage combined with an underneath blitz, since the replace route needs time to develop and a fast interior pressure package will collapse the pocket before the third read comes open

Usage Tips

Check the pre-snap alignment of the slot defender since the exit motion is designed to bait him into following the man out wide, opening the underneath window for the spot route

Use this on third and short to medium distance because the spot and replace routes settle at the sticks and give you a high percentage completion versus zone drops

If the defense shows two deep safeties pre-snap, trust the underneath routes since the middle of the field is open for the sitting route to work

Pair this with RPO Peek Slant or RPO Alert Bubble earlier in a series so the defense has to respect the quick game before you hit them with the layered spot concept

Hot route the replace receiver into a deeper crossing route if you diagnose man coverage across the board, since the natural rub from the exit motion will create early separation
