HB Power out of the Shotgun Wing Stack Wk set is a gap scheme run play built around a pulling guard and lead blocker attacking a designated hole with double team leverage at the point of attack. The offensive line down blocks to seal interior gaps while the puller kicks out or leads through the alley, giving the HB a clear path to press the hole and read the first color he sees. This is a base run play, not a play-action or RPO look, so the primary read progression starts with the mesh point key: press the gap hard, then bounce or cut based on the first defender to show color off the double team.
Identify the Mike linebacker depth pre-snap, if he is stacked tight behind the double team he is reading the pull and will fill fast, so be ready to bounce. Watch for a 3-4 odd front with a shaded nose tackle, this alignment can clog the natural running lane and force an early bounce read. Check for run blitz keys such as a safety creeping into the box or a linebacker walked up on the line, this signals an extra gap defender you need to account for. Man coverage on the perimeter with no extra flow support in the box is the green light to hammer this play downhill. If the defense shows a heavy zone shell with linebackers reading run first and flowing hard to the pull side, counter with RPO Counter Read or RPO Read Cntr on the next snap to keep them off balance.
Run this out of 12 personnel to sell base run formation and keep the defense honest against your RPO Read Cntr and RPO Power Alert Bubble calls out of the same set.
Check the box count pre-snap and only run Power into light boxes of six or fewer defenders, especially against odd front looks with a shaded nose.
Use motion or a quick look at the strong safety alignment to confirm the defense is not rotating extra help into the run fit before the snap.
Pair this with Inside Zone and Same Side Zone in your play calling script so linebackers cannot sit on gap tendencies and fast flow to the pull.
On short yardage or goal line downs, trust the double team at the point of attack and press the hole hard instead of bouncing outside prematurely.
