RPO Zone Peek out of the Shotgun Wing Stack Wk set gives the quarterback a true give or peek decision built on a zone run scheme up front with a single receiver peek route attached as the RPO element. The offensive line executes a zone blocking scheme to the play side while the running back reads the flow of the defensive front, and the QB keys one defender (usually a flowing linebacker or slot defender) to decide between handing the ball off or pulling it to fire the peek route behind that vacating defender. This is a hybrid run/pass concept that beats both light boxes and overaggressive linebacker flow, with the primary read progression being box count first, then the peek key defender if the box is loaded.
Defensive Reads
Watch linebacker depth at the snap since fast flowing linebackers who crash the line open up the peek route immediately behind them Identify single high safety shells like Cover 3 or Cover 1 since these structures often leave the peek defender isolated with no help underneath Look for a sitting or spying linebacker who stays home and reads the mesh point because this defender can jump the peek route and blow up the RPO read Man coverage on the peek receiver with tight leverage and no cushion is a strong indicator to trust the run instead of pulling the ball Watch for a nano blitz or overload pressure look presnap since that forces a quicker decision and rewards getting the ball out fast to the peek route before the pocket collapses
Usage Tips
Check the box count before the snap and if the defense has six or more in the box, prepare to pull and throw the peek route instead of forcing the zone run
Identify if the defense is showing man or zone shell presnap because the peek route explodes against linebackers who bite hard on run flow in zone coverage
Use the hot route menu to adjust the peek receiver into a deeper option against teams that sit their linebackers short to take away the quick throw
This play works best on early downs like first and second and short to convert manageable yardage while keeping the defense honest against your run game
