Trips X Nasty Offset WK is the compressed cousin of the standard Trips looks in Shotgun. You get 11 personnel with the trips bunch stacked tight to one side, the X receiver aligned nasty (inside the numbers, near the tackle) on the backside, and the halfback offset to the weak side. That offset back placement is the tell: it changes your run fits, gives you a clean release for the back into the flat, and lets you slide protection away from the trips side without motioning anything. Compared to spread out trips sets, the tight splits here compress the defense horizontally, which shrinks throwing windows for zone defenders but also creates natural rub and traffic on man coverage.
Read the leverage on the trips side pre-snap: if the defenders are stacked inside with outside shade, hit Mtn Slot Fades and throw the back shoulder before the safety can rotate over.
On third and medium, Snag Slot Digs is your bread and butter versus zone. Sit the snag in the flat if the corner squats, otherwise let the dig cross the linebacker's face.
Motion the middle trips receiver across the formation on run plays like HB Power and Sft Inside Zone to force the defense to bump their box count, then check into the opposite play if they overcommit.
Against single high with a light box, Sft Read Option punishes the unblocked edge defender since the offset back is already aligned away from the trips strength.
Always hot route the offset back on any 3rd and long dropback in this set. It gives you an outlet when the compressed splits let the pass rush win before your dig routes clear.
