Quick Short Post is a quick game man beater out of Shotgun Trips X Nasty Offset WK that gets the ball out of your hands in under two seconds. The trips side runs short post and slot breaking routes designed to attack inside leverage, while the backside X receiver works a quick out or shallow crosser to hold the flow of the defense. Protection is a standard five man slide, so this is not designed for deep drops but for beating press man and aggressive underneath zone with timing throws. Primary read starts with the inside slot post on the trips side, then works to the underneath crosser if the post window is closed by a robber or Tampa 2 look.
Pre snap, identify single high safety alignment: if the free safety is shaded to the trips side, expect a robber or match coverage look designed to squeeze the post. Watch cornerback depth on the trips receivers, since soft corners playing off coverage signal zone drops that clog the shallow crosser but open the post seam behind them. Post snap, key the middle linebacker's initial drop: if he sinks hard to the post route, that is a Tampa 2 or Cover 2 man under indicator, and you should reset to the backside crosser instead. Look for a user controlled defender flashing down into the passing lane immediately after the snap, which usually signals a lurk technique trying to jump the post breakpoint. Against Cover 4 or quarters shells, the flat defender's positioning tells you whether the post will be doubled, so if the corner squats at five yards, expect the safety to rob the inside route.
Fire this off against Cover 1 and Cover 0 looks where the slot defender lacks safety help over the top on the post route.
Check the middle of the field pre snap: if you see a single high safety sitting deep, the post window is live and you should throw with anticipation before the break.
Use the hot route menu to convert the trips outside receiver into a quick speed out if you diagnose Cover 3 sink, since the post concept alone won't beat a hard flat to deep third rotation.
Pair this play with Mtn Triple Slants or Quick Under in your play calling sequence to condition the defense into cheating underneath, then hit this post for an explosive gain once linebackers start jumping short routes.
Best called on second and short to medium third down distances where a free access release lets your slot receiver win inside without getting rerouted.
