Defensive Reads

Use this play on early downs or third and medium when you expect man coverage, since the crossing routes create natural traffic against man defenders trailing across the formation.

Check the safety alignment pre-snap: if you see two high safeties sitting deep, prioritize the underneath out route and the HB sneak instead of forcing the deep crosser into a crowded middle of the field.

Motion the receiver at the snap to confirm man versus zone, if the defender follows across the formation you know you have a man beater and can trust the crosser to separate.

If the defense shows blitz off the edge, get the ball out quickly to the HB sneak since it releases fast and gives you a built in answer against pressure.

Pair this play with Mtn Fk Cross or PA WR Cross in the same set to keep defenders guessing on crossing concepts, then mix in HB Draw or Inside Zone to slow down aggressive linebacker flow.
