PA Y Cross

PA Y Cross runs a play-action fake out of Shotgun Doubles Off Close Wk, using the run fake to hold linebackers before attacking the middle of the field. The Y (tight end) runs the namesake deep crossing route from one side of the formation all the way across the field, while the outside receiver on that side runs a corner route to clear space and occupy the deep defenders. On the backside, the single receiver runs a deep vertical route to stretch the defense and hold the safety over top. The primary read starts with the Y crosser working underneath the safeties, then progresses to the corner route if the middle is jumped, with the deep vertical shot as the alert versus single-high coverage that leaves the crosser lurking. This is a man beater against man coverage since the crosser creates natural separation working across defenders, and it also stresses zone defenders who have to widen for the corner and vertical routes.
