Jet Touch Pass is a quick jet motion play out of Pistol Doubles that gets the ball out of the quarterback's hands almost immediately. The diagram shows a receiver in jet motion running a shallow path across the formation, catching a quick touch pass behind the line, while another route crosses over the top to occupy underneath defenders and clear a lane. This is a screen-style RPO look built to attack overaggressive run fits and outrun pursuit to the flat, with the primary read being the jet motion man as the first and only real target on a well-timed snap.
Watch linebacker depth and flow pre-snap, if they are shallow and quick to trigger on motion this play will hit before they can redirect. Man coverage on the jet motion man is a green light since he already has a head start and the touch pass timing beats trail technique. Zone defenses that widen their flat defender or cornerback with the motion open up the crossing route as a secondary answer over the top. Defenses that spy or key the jet motion with a linebacker or slot corner can blow this up for a loss, so avoid this call against teams that show discipline on jet sweep tendencies. Blitzes off the edge do not stop this concept since the ball comes out before the rush arrives, but interior blitzes with a linebacker sitting on the touch pass lane can jump the throw.
Snap the ball as the jet motion man crosses the formation so the touch pass timing lines up perfectly with his stride.
Use this against defenses that are keying run or crashing linebackers downhill, since the touch pass hits behind the initial flow of overpursuing defenders.
Pair this with Jet Inside Zone and HB Dive in your play-calling sequence so the defense has to respect both the run and the quick pass off the same jet motion look.
Best called on early downs or short yardage situations where defenses are sitting on the run and linebackers are flowing hard to the play side.
If the defense shows blitz pre-snap, get the ball out even quicker since the touch pass concept is designed to beat pressure with speed in space.
