Behind the pressure, this is a Cover 3 shell: both cornerbacks sink into deep thirds, the slot corner peels underneath to the flat, one safety rotates over the top as the deep middle third defender, and the other safety and remaining linebacker fill underneath zone landmarks. This is a zone blitz designed to disguise pressure while still keeping three deep defenders in place, so the primary read for the blitzer is contain leverage off the edge and the underneath defenders key the quarterback's eyes to jump any hitch or curl route sitting in the intermediate zone.

Defensive Reads

Trips or bunch formations can overload the underneath flat zone, so shade the slot corner and safety help toward the strength of the formation before the snap.

Usage Tips

Call this on early downs or second and medium when offenses are still establishing their run/pass tendencies since the edge pressure disguises run fits well.

Check the offensive tackles and running back alignment pre-snap. If both tackles are uncovered and expecting to slide protect, the edge rushers will win outside contain quickly.

User the slot corner or the flat defender manually so you can jump underneath crossers and quick game throws that are the natural answer to Cover 3 edge pressure.

Pair this with Cover 3 Sky or Cover 3 Cloud in your play-calling sequence so quarterbacks cannot key the same pre-snap safety rotation every time you bring edge heat.
