Breakdown
3 Sim Tex is a Cover 3 simulated pressure look out of the 3-4 Over Ed front. Both outside linebackers show blitz off the edge but drop into underneath zones (the crossing yellow routes show the DL/EDGE rushers looping and dropping to the shallow middle), while the deep thirds are covered by the two purple corners and the deep safety, and the two inside defenders (white squares) wall off the middle short zone. This is a zone based coverage disguise designed to bait the quarterback into thinking a full blitz is coming, and the primary post-snap read is the deep middle third versus the underneath robbers before checking down to whichever crosser settles into the void.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, check the offensive formation for stacked or bunch sets that could overload one of the deep thirds and force you to shade the safety early Post-snap, watch for the quarterback attacking the deep middle third since that is the single high defender's responsibility and the biggest exposure in this shell Key on the underneath droppers crossing paths in the middle of the field since a well timed dig or in route can split that seam if the drop is too shallow Beats quick game and RPO reads that key on blitz personnel since the disguise forces a hot read that is not actually there Struggles against deep out routes to the flat corners' side if the OLB drop is late, so user control the flat defender if you sense a comeback or corner route coming
Usage Tips
Show this on early downs or third and medium when quarterbacks expect a standard four man rush so the simulated pressure disguise catches them off guard
Bait the offense pre-snap by aligning your OLBs on the edge like a normal blitz then drop them into their zone landmarks at the snap to sell the illusion
Pair this with 1 Sting Tex and 2 Sim Tex in the same play calling sequence so quarterbacks cannot key on personnel or alignment tells across snaps
Use in third and long or two minute situations where offenses are more likely to throw quick game or slants that the underneath droppers can jump
User the crossing underneath defender if you expect a shallow cross or drag combo since that zone is the most exploitable window in this concept
