Fake Fg K Flip Pass is a trick play out of the Field Goal Special formation that catches defenses sleeping on standard field goal personnel. The holder flips the ball to the kicker on a quick lateral action, and the kicker looks to throw off the fake, attacking a defense that has sold out to block the kick. This is a designed pass off a run fake with the primary read being the first open receiver leaking into the flat or seam area, since most FG block units leave minimal coverage downfield.
Pre-snap, identify whether the defense is in a true field goal block package with players lined up to rush the kick versus a scout team look that shows contain and deep safety help. If the defense keeps a deep safety over the top or has defenders spying the kicker and holder, the fake is dead and you should abort to the real kick. Post-snap, watch for defenders staying home on the edges instead of crashing, since disciplined containment eliminates the kicker's throwing window. Look for any defender showing lurk instincts by sitting in the throwing lane rather than rushing the block, which signals the defense has scouted the fake. This play is shut down hard by any defense that assigns a spy to the holder and kicker or that rushes with restraint instead of selling out on the block attempt.
Only call this when the defense shows a standard field goal block look with no safeties deep and linebackers crashing the line of scrimmage.
Save this for specific game situations such as 4th and short near midfield or end of half when the defense expects a real kick attempt.
Mix this into your play-calling after you have run Fake Fg Holder Blast or Fake Fg Holder Power earlier in the game to condition the defense into overreacting to fakes.
Watch the edge defenders and outside contain before the snap since undisciplined edge rushers who crash inside open up the kicker's throwing lane.
Never spam this play since defenses will start sitting back in coverage on FG formation snaps once they have seen it once or twice on film.
