RPO Peek Post from Shotgun Y Trio Offset Wk is a run pass option built around an inside handoff read paired with a single deep post from the backside X receiver. The diagram shows the offensive line and TE blocking down for the run scheme while the X breaks vertically upfield before cutting inside on a post, giving the QB a peek shot over the top if the run fit is sound. The primary read progression starts with the box count and second level defenders to decide run or throw, then works to the post if the QB pulls it and sees a vacated deep middle or a favorable one on one look.
Pre snap identify single high versus two high shells since a lone deep safety signals the post has a bigger throwing window over the top. Watch linebacker depth and width, if they are stacked tight to the box the run read favors keeping it on the ground behind the blocking scheme. Post snap track any user controlled defender sinking into a deep middle lurk position, that player can jump the post route and turn it into a turnover if the QB forces the peek. Look for aggressive run blitzes off the edge or through the A gap, those alignments tell the QB to pull and go straight to the post rather than testing the run fit. Man coverage on the X with no safety help over the top is the green light to take the peek shot immediately after the run key is read.
Check the safety alignment before the snap since a single high safety cheating toward the numbers opens up the post window versus two deep shells that force you to stay on the run. Use this in early down and medium distance situations where defenses are more likely to load the box and give you an easy hand off read. Hot route the post into a deep cross or have the QB manually go through the peek if you see man coverage from a slower linebacker matched on the TE area. Pair this with HB Power O and Inside Zone Split from the same set so defenses cannot sit on the RPO key and start jumping the run fit early. Sequence this after Y Lead Read Option or Mtn Y Lead Read Option to condition the defense to respect the run threat, which sets up bigger explosive shots on the post later in the drive.
