Breakdown

Dash Flood is a horizontal stretch concept out of Shotgun Y Off Trio Close WK that floods one side of the field with three receivers at three distinct levels (flat, intermediate, deep). It is built as a zone beater, designed to overload cornerbacks and flat defenders by giving the quarterback a clean high low read against Cover 2 and Cover 3 shells. The primary progression starts with the deep flood route to see if the corner bites on the shallow route, then works down to the intermediate breaking route, and checks down to the flat as the outlet against a hard squeeze.

Defensive Reads

Read the safety alignment before the snap, if you see two high safeties holding depth this confirms Cover 2 or Cover 4 and the flat to intermediate window should be open Watch the flat defender post snap, if he sinks late or gets caught reading the quarterback's eyes the underneath throw window opens for an easy completion Key the cornerback's footwork at the snap, if he bails immediately into a deep zone drop that signals Cover 3 and the intermediate route becomes the primary target Beware of Cover 3 buzz or sky variations with a user controlled defender sitting in the flat to jump the shortest route, this is the main defensive answer to shut down Dash Flood Man coverage with underneath help, particularly Cover 1 with a robber defender, can undercut the intermediate route so be ready to hot route or check down quickly if you see man alignment with tight press corners

Usage Tips

Use pre-snap motion to identify if the defense is playing a two high shell or rotating to single high, since Dash Flood punishes Cover 2 and Cover 3 defenders who cannot cover all three levels

Hot route the backside receiver into a quick out or drag to give yourself a answer against man coverage if the flood side gets jumped

This play works best on second and medium or third and short to medium since the flood concept takes a beat to develop and needs the intermediate window to open

Pair this play with Mtn Mesh Flood or Empty Mtn Flood H-Trail in your call sheet so the defense cannot key on the flood side alone, forcing them to respect multiple flood killer concepts from the same formation

Use play action shot plays like Mtn PA Cross Switch afterward once you have shown Dash Flood a few times, since defenders will start jumping the flood routes and open up the deep shot opportunity behind them
