PA Slide is a play-action pass out of Shotgun Wing Flex Offset with 12 personnel that shows a slide protection fake to sell the run before the QB works through a three level route concept. Defensive Reads

This play struggles against aggressive man coverage blitzes since the play-action fake does not hold linebackers long enough and the slide route can get picked up quickly by an off-ball defender in man. Look for a user controlled lurk defender sitting in the shallow zone, if he is baiting the slide route, work back to the deep dig or double move on the outside route instead.

Usage Tips

Use PA Slide on early downs when you have established the run game out of this formation so linebackers respect the play fake and bite on the slide protection action.

Key the middle linebacker or nickel defender before the snap, if he is sitting in a shallow zone drop, hot route the slide receiver to keep pushing across the field for a bigger window against man coverage.

Against Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells, prioritize the deep dig route sitting down in the void between the underneath zone and deep third defenders.

Pair this play with Mtn Inside Zone or Power O out of the same formation to keep the defense honest on run fits, then dial up PA Slide once you see linebackers stepping up aggressively.

On third and medium, use the slide route as a built in checkdown against blitz looks since it clears underneath quickly and gives the QB a safe outlet if the deep routes are covered.
