Two high safety shells with a robber or lurk defender sitting in the middle of the field can undercut the deep crosser, so be ready to check down to the comeback route if you see a defender sitting in that throwing lane. Blitz-heavy defenses that bring extra rushers off the edge can disrupt the play-action timing, so identify pre-snap blitz indicators like walked-up linebackers or safeties creeping into the box before committing to the shot route.
