Post-snap, user the playside defensive end and force him to stay home rather than crashing, this eliminates both the QB keep lane and the HB pitch simultaneously. Watch for a lurking safety or nickel defender sitting in the alley, this defender can blow up the pitch path if the offense does not account for him with a lead blocker. Heavy blitz packages that send extra defenders off the edge can beat this play before the mesh point develops, so respect all out pressure calls on early downs.

Usage Tips

Use this on early downs in run heavy personnel counts when you have identified a light box with six or fewer defenders in the tackle box.

Watch the playside defensive end pre-snap, if he is crashing hard down the line on every snap you can key the keep read immediately after the snap.

Pair this with RPO Alert Bubble or RPO Zone Alert Bubble from the same set so the defense has to respect both the perimeter throw and the interior run, forcing linebackers to hesitate on their fits.

Avoid calling this against defenses that show spy or scrape exchange technique since disciplined edge defenders will sit and force a bad pitch read.

Mix in HB Counter and Speed Option from the same formation to keep the defensive line guessing on their run fits and prevent them from keying the QB run threat too early.
