Flip QB Wrap is a designated quarterback run out of Shotgun Trips TE Offset that flips the formation strength and pulls the backside guard to wrap around and lead the QB through the hole. This is a run play built to attack light boxes, using the flip action to get numbers to the play side while the offensive line down blocks and seals the interior. The primary read is the quarterback keying the flow of the play side defensive end or the first unblocked defender off the edge, deciding whether to press downhill behind the puller or bounce it outside if the edge is crashed down.
Watch for stacked linebackers at depth, if both mikes sit tight behind the line they can fill the wrap lane before the puller gets there and blow up the play. Man coverage on the outside with safeties rotated into the box is the biggest killer for this concept since it adds an extra run defender without tipping off pre-snap. Look for the play side defensive end crashing hard inside on the snap, that is your bounce outside key since the puller cannot reach him in time. Zone coverage shells with two deep safeties usually leave lighter boxes, that is the green light shell for hitting this downhill for positive yardage. User controlled defenders spying the quarterback pre-snap are the biggest threat, if you see a linebacker or safety cheating toward the line with eyes on the backfield rather than receivers, expect a QB spy or contain rush designed to stop this exact concept.
Check the box count before the snap and only call this against six or fewer defenders in the box since the QB is a live runner here with no built in pass option.
Use the flip motion to identify if the defense shifts its front, if linebackers flow hard to the new strength you have a cutback lane away from the puller.
Pair this with RPO Alert Bubble or RPO Zone Alert Bubble earlier in a series so the defense respects the perimeter and stays honest instead of crashing the box on run downs.
Best called on second or third and short where defenses are more likely to sit in base fronts rather than nickel or dime packages that remove run support.
If the CPU or opponent shows an aggressive edge defender crashing down every snap, hot route the puller to insert quicker or set up HB Flip Counter afterward to punish that same tendency with misdirection.
