Breakdown

Inside Zone from Shotgun Trey Offset lines up the RB offset next to the QB with a Trey bunch look (three receivers stacked to one side, single TE flexed into the formation). The diagram shows a pure zone blocking scheme up front with the offensive line stepping in unison to seal running lanes, and the RB reading the double team at the point of attack before pressing downhill through the A or B gap. This is a base run play with no route concept attached, designed to attack light boxes and gap discipline rather than beat any specific man or zone coverage in the passing game. The primary read is the playside double team block: the RB presses the hole, reads the first down lineman past the center, and cuts back if the frontside gap is clogged.

Defensive Reads

Watch linebacker depth before the snap, stacked or blitzing linebackers crashing downhill can be gashed by the natural cutback lane in inside zone. Identify if the defense is in a run-focused front like 46 or Bear, these alignments clog interior gaps and force you to rely on cutback vision rather than pure gap speed. Look for safety rotation toward the Trey bunch side, if both safeties cheat to the passing strength the backside A gap often opens up for a big cutback run. Beware of nano blitzes or A gap pressure from user-controlled defenders, these can blow up zone steps before the double team forms and force a negative play. Man coverage with no extra run support in the box is the ideal shell to attack, since it usually means fewer defenders account for the interior run lanes.

Usage Tips

Check the box count before the snap and only run this into 6 or fewer defenders in the box for a clean numbers advantage.

Use the Trey bunch alignment to bait defenses into rolling coverage away from the run strength, then attack the vacated side with your zone steps.

Pair this with RPO Zone Alert Stick or RPO Zone Alert WR Screen out of the same formation so defenses cannot sit on the run without exposing the perimeter.

On early downs (1st and 10 or 2nd and medium) this play keeps you on schedule and sets up play action shots like PA Post Shot or PA Cross Switch later in the drive.

User the RB manually through the mesh point if the CPU blocking logic misses a backside cutback lane, patience beats speed on this concept.
