China Y Cop is a play-action shot play out of Shotgun Trey Offset that floods the field with a deep post, a corner route, a dig, a drag and a flat/swing check release, all designed to overload one side of the field against zone coverage. The play-action fake from the backfield holds linebackers for a beat while the Y (tight end) runs the corner off the trey bunch and the outside receiver behind him breaks on a deep post, creating a natural high low stretch on any deep third defender. This is a certified Cover 3 beater, and the progression should start with the post to corner combo before working down to the dig and drag underneath as checkdowns.
Pre-snap, identify if the safety over the trey side is deep or crashing down since a single high look confirms this play's ideal Cover 3 or Cover 1 matchup. Post-snap, key the deep third defender on the trey side, if he sinks with the post the corner route sits open in the void behind him. Watch for a user controlled safety sitting in the deep middle robbing the post, that lurk threat is the primary way to shut down the top of this concept. If linebackers show blitz or fire zone pressure, expect the drag and flat routes to be the quickest answers since the play action fake may not fully hold blitzing defenders. Against Cover 2 or Cover 4 shells with two deep safeties, the dig route becomes the key stress point since it settles in the intermediate zone between the corner routes and the drag underneath.
Look for single high safety shells pre-snap since this concept is built specifically to punish Cover 3 and Cover 1 with the post corner combo on the trey side.
Motion is not built in, so use your pre-snap alignment read to confirm if the corner over the trey bunch is playing off or bailing into a deep third before the snap.
If the defense shows two high safeties, get to the dig or drag in your progression quickly since the post and corner window will be tighter against Cover 2 or Cover 4.
Pair this call with Stick or Verticals Y Drag earlier in a series so the defense respects the quick underneath game, then hit them with the deep shot from China Y Cop when they start jumping routes.
Best used on second or third and medium when defenses are more likely to sit in zone shells, giving your post corner combo room to work behind sinking linebackers.
