A single high safety with the corners playing tight outside shade usually means man coverage, which favors the nod route creating separation off the initial fake. Blitz packages that bring extra pressure from the trio side can jump the flat route quickly, so recognize a walked up linebacker or slot defender crashing downhill as a sign to get the ball out immediately on the nod route. Two deep safeties with soft corner leverage on the backside go route usually means the shot play is covered, so stay patient and work the underneath stick combo instead of forcing the deep ball.
