Corner - Threat out of Shotgun Doubles Flex is a five-man route concept built around a deep corner route from the inline receiver on the right side, paired with an in-cut crosser and a wheel route from the left side to create a natural high-low stretch on the boundary defender. The right slot runs a quick pivot back to the flat as a checkdown outlet while the left slot runs a shallow drag underneath the crossing route. This is primarily a man beater, using the corner and wheel combo to attack outside leverage and rubbing off any trail technique, though the flat and drag options give you answers versus soft zone drops as well. Primary progression starts with the corner route to the boundary, works to the wheel route working from the numbers, and checks down to the flat or drag underneath if both are covered.
Watch for a user controlled safety sinking into the deep third or quarter to take away the corner route, if he commits early reset to the wheel route developing behind him. Cover 3 with a hard flat defender can undercut the flat route quickly, so know your checkdown timing and be ready to climb the pocket if that throwing lane closes. Man coverage with no safety help over the top is the ideal shell to attack since both the corner and wheel routes create natural picks and separation against trail defenders. Blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge shorten your progression fast, get the ball out on the drag or flat quickly rather than waiting on the deeper routes to fully develop. Zone shells like Cover 4 or Cover 2 with deep half safeties can squeeze the corner route, look for the underneath drag sitting in the void created by linebackers dropping to cover the flat.
Pre-snap, identify if the corner is playing outside leverage or bail technique since the corner route wins hard against press man and off coverage that opens hips late.
Check the strong safety depth before the snap, if he is shaded toward the trips or flex side the wheel route from the opposite receiver has a favorable one-on-one matchup versus a linebacker.
Hot route the drag runner into a deeper dig if you are facing zone heavy defenses that sit their linebackers underneath, this gives you a sudden intermediate window behind the second level.
Use this play on second and medium or third and long when you need an explosive gain, the corner and wheel combo can both hit for chunk yardage if the safety bites on the shallow drag.
Pair this call with Four Verticals or PA Dagger from the same set so defenses cannot sit on the corner route tendency, then come back to Corner - Threat once the defense starts jumping the flat or drag options.
