Play diagram for RPO Zone Peek Glance from Shotgun Doubles Flex Y Off Close in Madden 27

Not in any team playbook.

Breakdown

RPO Zone Peek Glance is a run-pass option out of Shotgun Doubles Flex Y Off Close that pairs an inside zone run look with a quick glance/peek route from the backside slot. The line and running back sell the zone run action to the play side while the backside receiver runs a quick in-breaking glance route and the outside receiver stems vertically up the sideline as a deep clear-out option. This is a numbers-based RPO built to beat light boxes and man coverage, with the primary read being the glance route on the peek key: throw the glance if the second level defender crashes or if the slot defender bites on run action, otherwise hand off the zone run underneath.

Defensive Reads

Watch the linebacker assigned to the glance route before the snap, if he is playing downhill run support he is a liability against the peek key. Zone shells with a Mike linebacker who sits and reads will take away the quick glance, forcing the offense into the run. Man coverage on the backside slot with no safety help over the top gets exposed by the glance route timing. Cover 3 or Cover 4 looks that keep numbers in the box discourage the run and bait the quarterback into the pass side of the RPO. User-controlled defenders who jump the run fake early leave the glance wide open, so spying the peek key defender is critical to shutting this down.

Usage Tips

Check the box count before the snap and give the ball on the zone run if the defense is in a light front with only six or fewer defenders near the line.

If the linebacker over the glance defender steps up to fill the run gap, pull the trigger on the peek throw immediately for a free access completion.

Use the vertical route on the backside as a clear-out to hold the safety, this opens up the glance window against zone shells that rotate late.

Mix this call with Read Option and Inside Zone from the same set so the defense cannot sit on the RPO key and has to respect the run fake every snap.

Best used on early downs or short yardage third downs where defenses load the box, since the glance punishes overaggressive linebacker fills.
