Cover 2 and Cover 4 with disciplined deep safeties can shut down the vertical seam, so watch for two deep safeties staying home rather than crashing on the fake. Post-snap, key the middle linebacker: if he bites hard on the jet action and run fake, the seam route will open behind him for an explosive gain. User-controlled defenders who stay in the passing lanes or drop into a deep lurk over the seam can jump the route, so double move or pump fake if you see a defender sitting on that throw.

Use this on early downs like first or second and short when defenses are keying run fits off the jet motion, since the play fake holds linebackers and opens the seam. Check the safety alignment before the snap: if you see two high safeties cheating toward the jet motion side, throw the vertical seam immediately before the deep safety can rotate back over the top. Against single high or Cover 3 rolled to the motion, the deep dig becomes your primary since the flat defender and curl defender get stretched by the seam clearing out the middle of the field. Pair this with Zone Fake Jet or Inside Zone earlier in a series to sell the run fake harder, then hit PA Zone Fk Jet once the defense starts biting on the jet sweep action. Hot route the underneath dig into a deeper comeback if you are facing aggressive zone drops that sit on intermediate routes.
