Read the running back release out of the backfield first since he is often the checkdown against pressure and the man defender on him needs inside leverage Key the offensive line slide protection pre-snap, if the line slides toward your blitzer you may need to user an additional rusher to keep the pressure honest Watch for quick game concepts like slants and speed outs that beat man coverage before the blitz arrives, since there is no zone help underneath Identify if the offense audibles to max protect or empty backfield, max protect neutralizes the extra rusher while empty exposes the deep man coverage to speed mismatches This look is vulnerable to play-action rollouts and screens since the aggressive linebacker flow can be manipulated, so trust your discipline on backside contain if you are not the designated blitzer
Call this on early downs or third and long when you expect the offense to sit in shotgun and take a deep drop, since the added rusher gets to the quarterback before deep routes fully break
Check the offensive formation before the snap and if you see stacked or bunch receivers to one side, user the blitzing linebacker to the opposite side of the strength to avoid a hot route pick or chip block
Use this play in sequence after showing Cover 1 Robber or Cover 1 Hole so the offense sees the same shell pre-snap and cannot distinguish the extra rusher from a standard single high look
