Overview

Dollar 3-2 is a defensive set, not an offensive one, and that distinction matters because it fields Big Dime 3-2-6: three defensive linemen, two linebackers, and six defensive backs. Compared to other Dollar sets that lean on a single stack linebacker or heavier edge personnel, 3-2 keeps two true linebackers on the field alongside the nickel, dime, and Dollar corners, which gives you a middle-of-the-field presence you normally sacrifice when you drop into six DBs. The NT, SUBLB, and SLCB tags tell the story: the nose tackle anchors a light front, a sub linebacker handles the second level, and the slot corner is aligned to travel with the offense's third receiver rather than leaning on a safety to rotate down.

That personnel structure is what makes the playbook so deep. You get the full match coverage tree (Cover 3 Match, Cover 3 Match KO, Cover 4 Palms, Cover 4 Quarters), the split field family (Cover 6, Cover 6 Willie, Okie Roll 2, Okie Roll 3), and true two-deep answers in Tampa 2 and Tampa 2 Drop. Against spread offenses that try to create a linebacker on slot mismatch, the SLCB alignment removes the leverage advantage entirely, forcing the quarterback to attack a corner in the slot instead of a sub linebacker.

The pressure package compensates for a three-man front. FS Zone Blitz, SS Zone Blitz, DB Fire 2, Corner Blitz 2, Edge Blitz 1, Edge Blitz 3, Cross 3 Fire Press, Overload 3 Seam, and Zero Blitz all bring extra bodies from the second level or the secondary, and because the base look is a light front, opponents struggle to identify the free rusher pre-snap. Double Bracket, 1 Double Wr1, and Dbl Safety Go round it out as dedicated tools for erasing a single dominant receiver.

Strengths

  • Six defensive backs with two linebackers means you can play true match coverage out of Cover 3 Match, Cover 3 Match KO, and Cover 4 Palms without conceding easy checkdowns over the middle
  • The SLCB tag keeps a corner on the slot, so bunch and trips route combos aimed at isolating a linebacker in space get neutralized before the snap
  • Deep zone variety is elite here: Tampa 2, Tampa 2 Drop, Cover 6, Cover 6 Willie, Okie Roll 2, and Okie Roll 3 all show similar pre-snap shells, letting you disguise the post-snap rotation
  • Secondary pressure packages (FS Zone Blitz, SS Zone Blitz, DB Fire 2, Corner Blitz 2, Edge Blitz 1, Edge Blitz 3) bring extra rushers from unpredictable angles while the three-man front still occupies blockers
  • Double Bracket, 1 Double Wr1, and Dbl Safety Go let you bracket an elite WR1 and force the offense to work the read progression to its second and third options

Weaknesses

  • Three down linemen generate almost no natural pressure, so single-high calls like Cover 1 Robber Press live and die on your user rush or blitz timing
  • Big Dime 3-2-6 is badly outmatched against inside power run and QB designed runs; opponents who identify the personnel will hammer inside zone and RPO give reads
  • Blitz calls like Zero Blitz, Hot Blitz 3, and Max Sting 3 vacate the middle of the field, and a quick slot hot route or drag beats them before the pressure arrives
  • Only two linebackers means play action rollouts and crossers can pull both underneath defenders out of position, opening the deep hole behind them
  • Opponents who motion a back or tight end out will force a linebacker into coverage in space, and that mismatch is exploitable on option routes and angle routes

Usage Tips

Live in this set on third and 6 or longer, when the offense is in 11 or 10 personnel and you need the SLCB matched on the slot instead of a linebacker

Pair Cover 3 Cloud Show 2 with Cover 2 Hard Flat and Cover 3 Hard Flat so the pre-snap shell looks identical and the flat defender responsibility changes post snap

User the deep middle safety in Tampa 2 and Cover 2 Sink LB Blitz; the AI hole player is the weak point of that shell and manual coverage there kills seam and dig concepts

Show blitz with Edge Blitz 1 or Cross 3 Fire Press to bait a protection slide, then bail into Cover 4 Drop Contain or Cover 4 Quarters on later downs to take away the deep shot

Keep a heavier audible mapped for run downs; if the offense subs in 12 or 21 personnel, get out of Big Dime 3-2-6 rather than trying to win with Str Eagle Slant 3
