Overview

MUT KO Chip Chasers Defense is a compact 24 play defensive book built for Ultimate Team users who want a small, memorizable call sheet instead of a sprawling menu. At 24 plays across 6 formations and 8 sets it sits larger than only 20% of the game's 11 defensive Ultimate Team playbooks, which means nearly every formation in it carries a full three play package and nothing is wasted. The weighting is deliberately top heavy: 4-3 and Nickel each take 25% of the book at 6 plays over 2 sets apiece, so half of everything you call comes out of two families you can learn cold. The remaining half splits evenly into four single set packages at 3 plays each: 4-2-5, 46, 5-2 and Dollar.

The coverage menu is where this book earns its name. Cover 3, Cover 4 and Quarters, Cover 6, Cover 9, Cover 2, Cover 1 and Trap Coverage give you the full zone and man rotation spectrum, and the blitz side stacks Blitz, Safety Blitz and LB Blitz on top of it. Sample calls like Cover 3 Buzz Spy, Cover 1 Contain, Cover 1 LB Blitz, Cover 3, Cover 2 Contain and Cover 1 show the design intent: pressure and coverage shells that look similar at the snap, with contain and spy variants that cap scrambling quarterbacks rather than opening chase lanes. That matters in KO and head to head, where the fastest way to lose is giving up free yards to a QB who breaks the pocket.

The personnel list, Big Nickel 4-2-5, Base 4-3, Base 5-2, Big Dime 3-2-6, Nickel 3-3-5 and Nickel 4-2-5, means you can answer heavy sets and empty sets from inside the same book without ever leaving your audible package. The real prize is Base 5-2, a formation that appears in only 15 of the game's 236 playbooks. Most opponents have no reps against a five man front, so the 3 play 5-2 package functions as a short yardage and goal line curveball that looks nothing like the 4-3 and Nickel shells you show the rest of the game. You pick MUT KO Chip Chasers Defense over a bigger book when you would rather master 24 plays and their user matchups than skim 40.

Scheme Fit

This book wants two coverage linebackers who can survive Cover 3 buzz and spy assignments, interior defensive tackles with block shedding and power to make the rare Base 5-2 front worth calling, and at least one press man corner so your Cover 1 and Trap Coverage calls hold up without safety help. The Big Nickel 4-2-5 and Big Dime 3-2-6 personnel reward a hybrid safety with zone coverage and tackling rather than a pure deep centerfielder, since half your calls are rotating shells. Pick MUT KO Chip Chasers Defense if you are a user defender who prefers mastering a short call sheet, controlling the middle of the field yourself and winning with disguise out of 4-3 and Nickel rather than menu diving for a new nano every drive.

Strengths

  • Half the book (12 plays) lives in 4-3 and Nickel, so your two highest volume formations each carry 2 sets and 6 plays, enough to disguise Cover 3, Cover 1 and blitz calls out of an identical alignment and force the opponent to guess post snap rather than pre snap.
  • Base 5-2 appears in only 15 of the game's 236 playbooks, giving you a five man front almost nobody has practice blocking, ideal for third and one, fourth and goal and two point stops where you want interior gap control without subbing out of your call sheet.
  • The coverage spread runs the full ladder, Cover 1, Cover 2, Cover 3, Cover 4 and Quarters, Cover 6, Cover 9 and Trap Coverage, so you can roll shells every series from the same 4-3 and Nickel looks and never let a user QB settle on one read.
  • Contain and spy variants like Cover 3 Buzz Spy, Cover 1 Contain and Cover 2 Contain are built into the book rather than requiring manual defensive line hot routes, which keeps your pre snap adjustment time free for shading coverage and moving your user defender.
  • Six personnel groups including Big Nickel 4-2-5, Big Dime 3-2-6 and Nickel 3-3-5 let you match heavy formations and empty spread from inside one playbook, and formation subs travel cleanly because 4-2-5 and Nickel share the same back seven bodies.

Weaknesses

  • At 24 plays it is smaller than 80% of the game's defensive Ultimate Team playbooks, so a repeat opponent will chart your 4-3 and Nickel packages inside a half and start motioning to identify man versus zone.
  • Four of the six formations (4-2-5, 46, 5-2 and Dollar) carry only 1 set and 3 plays each, so once you dip into them your options are exhausted and a good user knows exactly which two or three calls can still come.
  • Dollar is your only true heavy sub package at 3 plays, which is thin coverage depth against five wide and empty sets where opponents attack the seams with trips motion and inside hot routes.
  • The 46 package is 3 plays of aggressive front pressure with no supporting depth, and if an opponent identifies it they can beat the rush with quick outs, screens and play action rollouts away from the overload.
  • The book leans hard on single high and Cover 3 family shells in its sample calls, so a user comfortable attacking the deep middle with post and seam combos can punish you before you rotate into the Cover 4, Quarters and Cover 6 answers.

Usage Tips

Build your primary audible package around the 4-3 and Nickel sets, 12 plays total, and keep one Cover 3 shell, one Cover 1 call and one blitz on the same page so you can flip between man and zone on any down without changing formation.

Use Nickel and Big Nickel 4-2-5 on second and medium to second and long, where 11 personnel offenses live, and user the middle hook defender to take away drags and crossers rather than blitzing into empty protection.

Save the 5-2 package for third and one, fourth and short and goal line, because the five man front is rare enough that most opponents have no blocking reps against it and will leak a free interior rusher.

Reach for Dollar only on third and long and obvious two minute situations, and pair it with Cover 4 or Quarters to cap the deep thirds instead of gambling with a four man rush and no depth behind it.

Mix Cover 3 Buzz Spy and Cover 1 Contain against mobile quarterbacks on third down, and keep 46 as a once or twice per game shot play so the overload look never gets diagnosed and beaten with a rollout.
