Edge Blitz 1 out of the Dime 2-3-6 Will set is a Cover 1 man blitz that brings pressure off the edge while playing lock man coverage underneath and a single deep safety over the top. Two second level defenders crash off the edges toward the quarterback, a third defender loops inside as a delayed rusher, and the fourth underneath defender drops to spy or cut a shallow crosser, all while the deep safety holds the middle of the field in a robber-style shell. The primary read for the defense is the quarterback's eyes: get the edge rushers home before the deep man coverage breaks down against option routes or scramble drills.
Defensive Reads
Pre-snap, identify if the offense has a single deep safety look themselves, because that tells you if they are audibling into a hot route beater against man coverage. Watch the slot and outside receiver splits, tight alignments can signal rub routes or pick plays designed to counter the man coverage shell. Post-snap, key the running back's release, if he stays in to block the edge rush is live, if he leaks out your spy defender needs to react immediately. This call gets beat by quick out breaking routes and slants that exploit the underneath defender's zone drop before the rush arrives. Look for streaking receivers matched against your deep safety, since he is alone on top and any bust in man technique underneath leaves him exposed to a big play.

Call this on early downs or third and medium when you expect a quick game passing attack that relies on timing throws.
Check the offensive formation pre-snap for trips or bunch sets, since Cover 1 man principles can get picked on by natural rub routes.
Use the flashing hot route icons to send an extra spy underneath if you see running back check downs or screen tendencies from your opponent.
Pair this call with Cover 1 Robber Press or Zero Blitz later in the series so quarterbacks cannot sit on the same edge pressure look every snap.
User the looping inside rusher to disguise the true point of attack and bait the quarterback into a quick throw right into your man coverage.
