Dbl Safety Go is a five man safety blitz out of the 2-3-6 Will Dime set that sends both safeties crashing off the edges while the underneath defenders scatter to short zone drops. The two outside rushers off the corners plus the interior blitzer create a five man pressure look designed to collapse the pocket before protection can set, with the remaining zone defenders sinking to take away quick hitters underneath. This is a blitz package built to beat teams that hold the ball or run empty style dropback concepts, not a coverage shell for sitting back in zone or man.
Defensive Reads
Read the offensive line splits pre-snap, wide splits often mean the QB expects to throw quick which neutralizes this blitz. Watch for a running back staying in to chip or pick up the edge safety blitzer, that tells you the offense sniffed the pressure. Post-snap, key the flat and shallow crossers first since those are the escape valves attacking your thinned out underneath coverage. If the quarterback checks down immediately after the snap, your zone defenders need to close space fast since there is minimal deep help. This blitz is countered hard by hot routes to slants and quick outs, so user a linebacker to jump the shallow crosser if you see it developing.
Usage Tips
Call this on third and long or in obvious passing situations where the offense needs time to develop routes downfield.
Check pre-snap for max protect or six plus man protection schemes since a five man safety blitz can get eaten up if the offense keeps extra blockers in.
Use your user controlled defender on the interior rusher to time the snap count and get a free lane if the center is sliding away.
Pair this with Cover 3 Lock or Cover 1 Robber Press earlier in the sequence so the offense cannot key blitz tells off safety depth alone.
Avoid calling this against RPO heavy or quick game offenses since the underneath defenders are spread thin and the hot route window is short.
