Breakdown

Inside Zone out of Singleback U Off Trips with 12 personnel lines up with a trips look to one side and a tight end attached in-line to the other, giving the offensive line a zone blocking scheme with double team combos at the point of attack and both TEs available to seal edges or climb to linebackers. The HB takes a track behind the zone blocking flow, reading the double teams up front and pressing the line before deciding to bend it back or hit the alley based on how the defensive front flows. This is a run play, not a play-action or RPO look, and it is designed as a gap and leverage scheme rather than a pure man or zone beater since the read is about the front's flow and linebacker fits.

Defensive Reads

Watch linebacker depth before the snap, if both backers are stacked tight behind the line they can fill gaps fast and blow up the zone track Key the defensive tackles for shade alignment, a nose shaded to the play side gap can clog the primary running lane and force an early cutback Identify if the defense is running a 4-3 or 3-4 under front, heavier fronts with an extra man in the box shut this play down and force you to check to a pass Watch for a linebacker blitzing through the A or B gap immediately after the snap, this nano-style blitz beats zone blocking before the double teams can climb Read the safety rotation post-snap, if the defense rotates a safety down to the trips side pre-snap it signals man coverage or a blitz package and the cutback lane on the backside should be open

Usage Tips

Check the box count before the snap and only run this into fronts with six or fewer defenders in the box so you are not outnumbered at the point of attack

Use the trips side alignment to bait the defense into rotating a safety or nickel down, which opens up cutback lanes on the backside of the zone scheme

Hot route the backside TE into a stalk or seal block versus aggressive edge defenders who crash down hard on zone flow

Pair this with Mtn Zone Toss and HB Counter Str in the same set so defenders cannot sit on one flow direction and start jumping the zone track

Use Inside Zone on early downs (1st and 10 or 2nd and short) to stay ahead of the chains and set up PA Boot Slide or PA Dagger U Cross once the defense starts crashing down on run action
