Dash Switch Curls is a curl-flat based zone beater out of the Shotgun Wing Trips WK Nasty Mug set, using a switch release concept to confuse man defenders on the trips side while stacking curl routes at multiple depths. The switch release creates natural rub traffic that forces defenders to work through picks, making this a strong option against both man and zone shells. Primary read progression starts with the underneath curl breaking to the flat, then works to the intermediate curl sitting down in the soft spot of zone coverage, and finishes backside if the curls are taken away underneath.
Read the flat defender first since Cover 3 and Cover 4 shells will leave him responsible for both the curl and flat, creating a natural conflict you can exploit with pump fakes. Watch linebacker depth at the snap because shallow linebackers signal a blitz look that opens up the curl routes settling behind them before pressure arrives. Identify the corner's press or off alignment on the trips side since off coverage invites an easy switch release win, while press coverage means you need patience for the rub to develop before breaking off your primary read. This play struggles against disciplined Cover 2 zones with sticky corners underneath since the curls have nowhere to sit against a hard flat defender and a deep half safety squeezing throwing lanes. Man coverage with a lurking user linebacker in the middle of the field can jump the intermediate curl route, so know your outlet check down before committing to that throw.
Check the pre-snap alignment of the Mug look defenders since this set often disguises pressure with defenders stacked at the line before backing out into coverage. If you see two high safeties post snap, work the curls quickly since zone defenders will sit at their landmarks and the switch release helps your receiver win the rub against man leverage. Hot route the backside receiver into a quick out or speed out if you diagnose Cover 3 to give yourself an easy check down against a single deep defender rotating late. This play works best on second and medium to third and short since the curl depth typically sits around 10 to 12 yards, giving you a high percentage completion window. Pair this with Curl Flat or Stick from the same set to keep the defense guessing between quick underneath throws and the switch release rub concept, forcing linebackers to widen their zone drops.
