Inside Zone out of Shotgun Wing Slot Offset WK is a base zone run play with 12 personnel on the field, giving you extra blocking flexibility from the two tight ends. The offensive line steps in unison to the play side, reading the first level defenders and working combo blocks up to the second level linebackers, while the tight ends handle the wing and slot alignments to seal the edge or wall off flow. The primary read starts with the play side double team, then bounces to the backside cutback lane if the play side linebacker flows too hard or the defensive line gets pushed upfield.
Identify the play side linebacker depth pre-snap, if he is sitting shallow and square he can fill the gap fast so plan to cut it back Check for a 3-4 odd front or heavy box alignment, this run gets clogged against six or more defenders stacked near the line of scrimmage Watch the backside defensive end and linebacker for scrape exchange or contain discipline, disciplined backside pursuit kills the cutback lane User controlled defenders sitting in the A or B gap as a lurk threat can blow this up immediately, so have a hot route answer ready if you see a defender creeping down before the snap Look for safety rotation into the box on the snap, a safety filling downhill signals run blitz or crash coverage and means you should audible to a quick pass instead
Use pre-snap motion sparingly here since the wing and slot tight ends are already declaring extra gap support, and watch how the defense adjusts its front before the snap
Attack bases sets and 4-3 or 3-4 fronts with light boxes, this play struggles against stacked 8 man boxes so check the defender count before snapping
Hot route the backside tight end into a quick out or flat route if you see man coverage creeping down, this keeps a blitzer honest and gives you a check down option
Pair this with Bounce Inside Zone Lt and Outside Zone in the same set to keep linebackers guessing on flow direction, then hit them with HB Draw or RPO Peek Post once they start crashing downhill
Use this on early downs, first and second and short to medium, to stay on schedule and set up play action shots like PA Dagger or Bounce PA Corner later in the drive
