Bounce PA Corner is a play-action pass out of the Shotgun Wing Slot Offset WK set that uses a hard run fake toward the strong side to hold linebackers and safeties before attacking the boundary with a corner route. The blocking scheme mirrors the outside zone run action, pulling defenders out of their zone drops and creating natural separation against man coverage on the backside. Primary read progression starts with the corner route as the first look against man or off coverage, then works down to the underneath crossers and flat routes if the corner is capped by a deep half safety.
Read the safety alignment pre-snap, a single high safety indicates Cover 1 or Cover 3 which favors the corner route beating man coverage on an island. Watch linebacker depth at the snap, if they bite hard on the run fake it confirms man or zone with aggressive run fits, giving the corner route a clean release window. Identify user-controlled defenders sitting in a deep third or playing lurk technique, a smart user defender can undercut the corner route if he reads the play-action quickly. Against two high safety shells like Cover 2 or Cover 4, the corner route runs into a natural defender in the deep quarter, so check down to the shallow crossers instead. Look for a linebacker spy or contain defender who does not bite on the fake, this signals the defense is respecting play-action and may be setting up a nano blitz or delayed pressure off the edge.
Sell the run fake by holding the play-action button briefly before releasing into your route progression, this freezes linebackers and opens the corner window.
Use this on early downs like 1st and 10 or 2nd and medium when defenses are more likely to bite on run action and sit in base personnel.
Check pre-snap for single high safety looks, this play thrives against Cover 1 and Cover 3 where the corner route can split the deep defender from the flat defender.
If the defense shows two high safeties pre-snap, hot route the corner into a deep out or comeback to avoid throwing into a natural zone beater bust.
Pair this with Bounce Inside Zone Lt and Outside Zone earlier in a drive to condition the defense to bite on run action, then hit them with this play-action shot once linebackers start crashing downhill.
