RPO Peek Slant is a run pass option out of the Shotgun Wing Flex Offset Wk formation with 12 personnel. The diagram shows two inside receivers running slants from the left side, one breaking underneath at a shallow angle and the other stemming outside before crossing back into a slant behind it, while the run action reads a run/hand off possibility into the line. This is a true RPO designed to attack light boxes and off man coverage, with your primary read being the slant window: peek the flat and underneath defenders on the play side, if the box count favors the run pull it down, if the linebacker or slot corner sits low give the QB the slant throw.
Defensive Reads
Watch the slot defender's depth and leverage before the snap, a defender sitting inside or cheating up signals run support and opens the slant throwing window Identify single high versus two high safety shells, single high often means the linebacker has to work both the run fit and the underdneath slant which creates conflict Look for a nickel or slot corner playing hard outside leverage in man coverage, this is where the shallow slant wins quickly against trail technique Key on linebacker depth at the snap, if the second level defenders crash the run fit immediately the peek read screams pass and the QB should pull and throw the slant Zone defenses that get a fast flat drop from the corner can undercut the shallow slant, so respect a cornerback sitting at the sticks in zone drops before committing to the throw

Check the box count before the snap and count defenders inside the tackles to decide run versus pass presnap
If the slot cornerback or nickel is playing off with soft outside leverage, throw the slant immediately since it beats off man and zone drop conversion cushions
Use hot routes to convert the second slant into a quick out if you see hard inside trail technique from the defender
This play works best on second and short or third and short since it gives the offense both a conservative run gain and a quick underneath conversion throw
