Mtn RPO Alert Bubble lines up in Shotgun out of the Wing Flex Offset Wk set with 12 personnel, giving the offense two tight ends on the line for extra run support. Pre-snap the diagram shows a bubble screen concept to the left with two receivers working a stacked release, one running a short pivot underneath while the other bends outside toward the sideline for the bubble catch point, while the offensive line and running back execute an inside run action to the right, giving the quarterback a true run/pass conflict read. This is an RPO built to attack overaggressive linebackers: if the second level bites on the run flow the quarterback pulls and throws the bubble screen, and if the box stays light the run keeps flowing on the play side.
Defensive Reads
Watch the slot defender or overhang linebacker at the snap, if he crashes down to fill the run gap the bubble window opens instantly. Man coverage on the bubble receivers is vulnerable since the stacked release creates natural separation before the defenders can get hands on. Zone shells with a flat defender sitting underneath the bubble concept can bait a bad throw, so respect a defender sitting in that landmark before pulling the trigger. Blitz-heavy fronts that send extra rushers off the edge often leave light boxes, which favors keeping the run alive rather than throwing the screen. Post-snap, track whether the linebacker flows with the run fake or stays home in coverage, since disciplined linebackers who hold their zone shut down the RPO read entirely.
Usage Tips
Check the numbers in the box before the snap and count defenders versus blockers to decide whether the run or the bubble screen is the better option.
If a linebacker or slot corner is sitting flat footed near the bubble launch point, hand the ball off and let the run hit downhill.
Use this play on early downs like first or second and short to medium yardage since it gives you a safe answer either way and keeps the defense honest.
Pair this with Mtn RPO Buck Peek Slant or RPO Zone Peek later in a series so the defense cannot key on the same run action, forcing linebackers to freeze on every snap.
Snap the ball quickly once you diagnose the leverage of the alley defender, since hesitation lets the flat defender close the bubble throwing lane.
