Mtn Fork Y-Corner is a man beating passing concept out of Shotgun Tight Flex Offset with 11 personnel that leans on the Y-receiver (tight end) running a corner route to attack the boundary against a trailing linebacker or safety. The route combo works a fork concept underneath, with a flat or drag route pulling defenders low while the corner route from the Y climbs vertically to the sideline, creating a high low stretch on the curl to flat defender. Primary read progression starts with the Y-Corner as the first look against man coverage, then works down to the underlying fork routes if the corner is capped by a deep safety rotation.
Check the safety alignment before the snap, a single high safety shaded toward the Y side signals a possible cloud coverage look that can jump the corner route. Watch the flat defender at the snap, if he sinks with the underneath fork route it opens a throwing window on the corner for a big chunk gain. Identify man coverage by looking at the linebacker or safety aligned over the tight end, if he opens his hips early and runs with the release this is your green light to trust the Y-Corner as the primary read. Beware two high shell defenses like Cover 2 or Cover 4 since the corner route runs directly into the deep quarter or half defender, forcing a check down to the fork concept underneath. Look for user controlled lurk defenders sitting in the flat or curl zone, since this play is vulnerable to a jumped throwing lane if the user reads the quarterback's eyes on the corner route.
Use this play on second and medium to second and long when defenses expect a run based off the Tight Flex Offset personnel look and get caught in man coverage. Motion the flexed tight end pre-snap if available to confirm man versus zone based on whether a defender follows across the formation. If the corner route is blanketed by a safety over the top, hot route the underneath fork receiver into a speed out to punish a linebacker sitting too deep. Pair this play with HB Slip Screen and Inside Zone from the same set to keep defenses honest on early downs before hitting them with the Y-Corner shot play once they start crashing downhill. Against known blitz heavy opponents, throw the corner route on rhythm off three step timing since the Y releases quickly and the blitz picks up late.
