Mtn Dagger H-Choice is a Dagger based passing concept that pairs a deep vertical clear-out with an underneath choice route from the H-back, giving the quarterback a true high low read against man and zone alike. The backside typically runs a dig or hitch to occupy the far side of the field while the boundary receiver stems vertically to stack the deep defender and open the middle of the field for the choice route. This is a man beater at its core since the choice route can settle, sit, or break based on the defender's leverage, but it also holds up against zone thanks to the vertical clear-out stretching the deep third or deep half. The primary read progression starts with the deep dagger shot if the corner bites, then works down to the H-back's choice route sitting in the vacated middle zone, and finally checks down to the underneath outlet if both are covered.
Check the free safety pre-snap, a single high look tells you the deep dagger route has one on one leverage down the field Watch the corner over the vertical route, aggressive outside leverage means the double move or seam shot is live while inside leverage means the choice route will be wide open underneath Key the middle linebacker or nickel defender assigned to the H-back, if he sinks into a deep zone drop the choice route should settle in front of him for an easy pitch and catch Cover 3 with a hard flat defender can squeeze the choice route so be ready to work the backside dig or hitch as your zone beater outlet Man coverage with a blitz behind it is the biggest threat here since the choice route needs time to break, so recognize extra rushers immediately and get the ball out on rhythm or check down before the pocket collapses
Motion the H-back pre-snap if available to get a free read on man versus zone based on whether a defender follows across the formation
Take the deep shot vertically only if you see single high safety look with the corner playing outside leverage, otherwise work the choice route immediately
Hot route the choice runner to sit versus zone coverage or break away from the nearest defender versus man to maximize separation
Use this play on second and medium or third and short to medium since the choice route creates an easy completion window without needing a huge play
Pair this call with Mtn Choice and Mtn Fk H-Angle in the same set so the defense sees similar route stems and cannot key on the choice concept, then hit them with Mtn Fork Y-Corner or PA Switch Verts once they start jumping the shorter routes
