HB Slip Screen out of the Shotgun Stack HB WK set is a designed screen pass that gets the running back leaking out to the flat behind a wall of blockers while the offensive line sells pass protection before releasing downfield. This is a blitz beater and zone beater built to punish aggressive pass rush calls and man pressure, since the interior linemen pull out to escort the HB once defenders commit upfield. The primary read is simple: get the ball to the HB in the flat as soon as he clears traffic, then let the blocking convoy work off the numbers or hash to create a running lane.
Watch for man coverage with off man corners since this leaves underneath flats wide open for the HB slip release. Blitz packages, especially interior nano blitzes, are the biggest weakness for the defense here because rushers vacate the throwing lane and the screen develops behind them. Disciplined zone defenses like Tampa 2 or Cover 3 with linebackers sitting in short zones can jump the screen if the user recognizes it early and sits on the flat. Post snap, key the middle linebacker's drop. If he flows hard to the play side without hesitation, he is likely reading the screen and will blow it up. Look for a user controlled defender spying the backfield. If the CPU or user linebacker stays home instead of blitzing, this play loses most of its explosiveness.
Call this play when you diagnose blitz pre-snap, especially nano blitzes or overload pressure from one side, since the extra rushers create running lanes for your blockers to clean up.
Check safety depth before the snap. If both safeties are crashing down or you see a heavy box count, the slip screen punishes that aggression immediately.
Use the flick or hot route sparingly here since the timing of the screen is scripted. Overriding the release point can disrupt your blocking leverage.
