Fade Out is a man beater out of the Shotgun Stack HB WK set that pairs a fade route from the stack side with an out route breaking underneath it, creating a natural high low leverage read on the outside corner. The backside typically works an out or comeback to give you a boundary option if the defense rolls coverage away from the stack, while the HB releases as a check down safety valve. The primary read progression starts with the fade against single coverage on the stack corner, then works down to the underneath out route if the corner sinks or a safety rotates over the top.
Pre-snap, check corner alignment on the stack side, if the corner is playing tight press with no safety help over the top you have a clean fade window. Identify single high safety shells like Cover 1 or Cover 3 before the snap, since these leave the fade one on one and favor the offense in this concept. Post-snap, key the flat defender or underneath zone defender to see if he sinks with the out route or widens too fast, which opens a throwing lane for the fade. Watch for user controlled safeties lurking over the top in Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells, as a smart defender can rob the fade route late and bait you into an interception. This play struggles against aggressive man press with safety help rotated to the stack side, and it can be exposed by disguised blitzes that get pressure before the fade route fully develops down the field.
Attack single high shells like Cover 1 or Cover 3 where the corner has to defend the fade without deep help, since the stack alignment creates a natural rub that delays the defender's jam. Use the out route as your primary hot route adjustment against Cover 2 or Cover 4 looks where the corner sits low and the fade gets taken away by the safety over the top. Throw the fade with anticipation on a back shoulder placement against man coverage rather than waiting for full separation, since the stack release gives your receiver a built in advantage at the top of the route. This is a strong red zone and third and medium call, especially near the boundary where the fade route has less grass to defend against zone rotation. Sequence this with Curl Flat or Curl Switch from the same set so the defense has to respect both a vertical shot and an underneath breaking concept, then come back to Fake Toss Post Sit or PA Jailbreak Screen to keep linebackers and corners honest against the run action tendencies you have shown.
