Quick Reference

Breakdown

Double Corner out of Shotgun Stack HB WK sends both outside receivers on corner routes while the stacked inside receiver works a shallow crosser or flat route underneath, creating a natural high low stretch on the outside cornerbacks. The HB stays in to check block or leak out late, giving you a checkdown against blitz pressure. This is primarily a man beater that exploits corners playing tight leverage, since the double corner concept forces two defenders to open their hips vertically at the same time, and your primary read progression starts with the corner route to the stack side before working back to the underneath crosser if the corners sit or the safety rotates over top.

Defensive Reads

Check the safety alignment pre-snap, a two high shell signals Cover 2 or Cover 4 where the corner routes need to work outside zone leverage rather than trying to split defenders Watch corner press versus soft technique at the line, press man corners are vulnerable to the corner route stem since they have to turn and run without help Read linebacker depth after the snap, shallow drops mean the underneath crosser will have a throwing window before the linebacker can gain width Identify user controlled defenders sitting in the flat or lurking the intermediate crosser route, this is the main defender that can jump your checkdown and bait a bad throw Recognize blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge, since the HB releasing late into a route can get picked off by a blitzer if protection is not adjusted with a chip or hot route

Usage Tips

Attack single high safety shells first since both corner routes will pull the deep defenders toward the sideline and away from the middle of the field

Use motion pre-snap on the stacked receiver to identify man versus zone, if the defender follows across the formation you know you have a man beater matchup to exploit

Hot route the underneath crosser into a quick out or option route against Cover 2 or Cover 4 shells where the corners sink under the corner routes

Pair this play with Curl Flat or Curl Switch from the same set so the defense has to respect both vertical and horizontal stress from identical formation looks

Best called on second and long or third and medium when defenses are more likely to play zone drops and you need the corner route to convert against soft coverage
