PA F Slide is a play-action shot play out of Shotgun Split Y-Flex that sells the fake with the fullback selling into the flat area (F Slide) while the fullback/backfield blocker holds protection. Off the fake, the outside receiver runs a deep post while the TE releases on a deep corner route from the slot, the slot receiver runs an intermediate drag/cross underneath, and the backside X receiver breaks off a deep dig across the middle to give the QB a shot play combined with an intermediate crossing outlet. This is a man beater play-action shot designed to punish aggressive run fits and single high looks, with the primary read progression going deep post first, then working down to the corner route, then checking down to the crossing dig and flat slide route underneath if the shot is not there.

Defensive Reads

Single high safety pre snap is the green light indicator for the deep post since it means one defender is responsible for two vertical threats Watch for a hard safety rotation to the play side after the snap which signals man coverage and tells you to trust the post corner combo Cover 3 zone shells with a deep middle defender will struggle against the corner route stretching the sideline, look for the corner route to sit down in the open window Linebacker depth on the play fake shows commitment level, if the linebackers step up hard on the run fake the crossing dig route behind them will be wide open User controlled defenders sitting in the deep middle or lurking in the throwing lane to the post are the biggest threat to this concept and should force you to progress to the corner or dig route instead

Usage Tips

Use this on early downs like first and ten or second and short when the defense is keyed on stopping the run to maximize the play-action hold on linebackers

Check safety alignment before the snap, if you see one high safety rotate to the deep post side this play has a great chance to hit for a big play

Hot route the flat slide route into a deeper option or check it down quickly against zone drops if the defense shows two high safeties pre snap

Pair this play in a sequence with HB Off Tackle or FB Inside from the same set to sell run tendencies and set up the play action fake later in the series

Against man coverage look immediately to the post and corner combo, against zone coverage work the crossing dig and slide route into the soft spots underneath the linebackers
