Mtn PA Flood is a play-action deep shot out of Shotgun Split Y-Flex that sells run action before flooding one side of the field with three levels of routes. The concept stacks a deep route, an intermediate route, and a shallow flat route all to the same side, creating a natural zone beater against Cover 3 and Cover 2 shells by overloading a single defender's landmark. The primary read progression starts deep to short: check the deep shot first for a home run ball, then work down to the intermediate breaker, and finally check down to the flat if the underneath defender sinks with the deep route.

Defensive Reads

Identify single high safety alignment pre-snap since Mtn PA Flood is designed to exploit Cover 3 and Cover 1 zone drops on the flood side. Watch the flat defender post-snap, if he sinks to take away the deep route you have an easy check down, if he stays low the intermediate route will be open behind him. Beware of Cover 2 or Cover 4 shells with two deep safeties, as they can bracket the deep flood route and force you into the checkdown. Key the play side outside linebacker or slot corner, a hard flat drop signals zone coverage while an aggressive jump on the run fake signals a potential blitz or run support cheat. User linebackers who lurk underneath the flood routes can jump the intermediate throw, so move the user defender with pump fakes or eye manipulation before committing to that route.
