Breakdown

Jet Pull Shallow is a jet motion pass concept out of Shotgun Bunch Wide Nasty. Pre-snap jet motion sweeps the ball side receiver across the formation as a potential decoy or checkdown, while the bunch releases into a shallow crosser underneath and a pivot out route from the middle of the bunch. The backside receiver runs a deep vertical to hold the safety, and the play features a shallow drag underneath from the blue route that can act as a jet sweep look before breaking upfield. This is a man beater built around natural pick action from the bunch alignment, with the shallow cross and pivot out creating traffic for man defenders while the vertical stretches zone coverage deep. Primary read progression starts with the deep vertical to see if the safety bites on run action, then works to the shallow crosser underneath, and finishes with the pivot out route as the checkdown against man coverage.

Defensive Reads

Watch the safety alignment before the snap, two high safeties suggest the deep vertical is a decoy and the shallow cross will be the primary target Key the linebacker depth at the snap, if they stay shallow and sink into the crosser's lane the play will struggle to find a soft spot underneath User the closest linebacker or slot defender onto the shallow crosser since that route is the designed first read against man coverage Look for a corner blitz off the bunch side, the pivot out route is designed to beat quick pressure by getting the ball out before the blitzer arrives Cover 3 with a hard flow to the jet motion can leave the shallow cross wide open in the vacated middle zone, sit a linebacker there to take it away Man coverage with no safety help over the top allows the deep vertical to win one-on-one, bracket that receiver if you suspect this play is coming

Usage Tips

Use the jet motion pre-snap to identify man versus zone coverage based on whether a defender follows the motion man across the formation

If the defense shows two deep safeties, target the shallow crosser immediately since the underneath zones will be softer against the bunch release

Hot route the vertical route into a deep out or comeback against press man coverage to give yourself a quicker win versus aggressive corners

Best called on second and medium to long or third and short since the shallow cross develops fast enough to move the chains

Pair this play with Mesh Drive or Jet Shallow Swirl in the same set to keep defenders guessing on which underneath crosser is the actual first read

Against blitz-heavy opponents, lean on the shallow route as a built-in hot route since it clears the box quickly before pressure arrives
