Jet Touch Pass is a quick perimeter throw out of Shotgun Ace Offset that uses jet motion across the formation to create horizontal stretch before the snap. The receiver in motion runs the jet path and turns it into a touch pass target just outside the tackle box, while the offensive line sets a quick perimeter screen or arc block to spring the runner after the catch. This is a run-pass option style horizontal quick game concept designed to beat overaggressive run fits and outside zone flow defenders, and the primary read is simply getting the ball into the jet motion man's hands immediately after the snap.
Watch for linebackers flowing hard with the jet motion pre-snap, this tells you the defense is in a run-fit shell that this touch pass can exploit. Identify if the cornerback to the motion side is playing man coverage with outside leverage, since that alignment invites a quick throw before he can close. Key the flat defender's initial step after the snap, if he sits and reads run first, the touch pass has a clean release lane. Look for defenses that scrape a linebacker or safety to the perimeter immediately at the snap, this usually signals the defense has diagnosed the concept and will blow it up for a loss or minimal gain. Beware of user-controlled defenders sitting on the flat or jumping the jet motion, since a disciplined lurk defender can jump this route and turn it into a turnover opportunity.
Snap the ball right as the jet motion man crosses the backfield to maximize the deception and speed to the edge.
Use this against defenses that key run motion and crash linebackers inside, since the perimeter blockers will have an easy path to the flat defender.
Check the flat and corner alignment pre-snap, if the corner is playing off or the flat defender bites on run action, the touch pass window opens instantly.
Pair this with Buck Sweep and Read Option from the same set so the defense has to respect both the true jet sweep and the touch pass out of identical motion, keeping linebackers honest.
Best used on early downs or short yardage to stay ahead of the chains, since the touch pass ceiling is a short to intermediate gain rather than a home run shot.
