Double Ins is a trips-based man beater out of Shotgun 4wr Pack Trips that isolates the backside receiver on a dig while the trips side runs a stack of in-breaking routes to overload underneath zones and pick off man defenders. The backside single receiver runs an inside breaking route that can win one-on-one against man coverage, while the trips side clears out linebackers and creates natural rub picks for the shallow crossers. Primary read progression starts backside on the isolated route against man leverage, then works to the trips side ins working from outside to inside as they cross the field, looking for the defender who loses the rub or gets picked at the second level.
Identify pre-snap whether the defense is showing man or zone, tight man coverage on the trips receivers with no underneath help is where the rub concept shines Watch the middle linebacker depth at the snap, if he sits shallow and flows late the trips side ins will convert wide open behind him Cover 3 and Cover 4 zone shells with sped up linebacker drops can undercut the shallow in routes, so be ready to check to the backside dig instead User controlled defenders sitting in the shallow hook or curl zone are the biggest threat to this concept, if you see a defender spying that area check your protection and hold the ball an extra beat Man coverage with strong safety help rotated to the trips side can jump the rub route combo early, so switch your first read to the backside isolated route in that situation
Check the backside cornerback leverage before the snap, if he is playing outside shade with no safety help over the top the backside dig is your first read against man coverage
Use motion or a hot route to adjust the trips receivers spacing if the defense shows a tight bunch look, this prevents the defense from jamming all three routes at the line
Against zone coverage look to the trips side in routes settling in the honey hole between the underneath linebackers and the deep safeties, especially versus Cover 3 or Cover 4 shells
This play excels on second and medium to third and medium since the in breaking routes naturally sit around the sticks and give you a built in high low read
