Defensive Reads

This play struggles against aggressive man press coverage and defenses that key screens with a linebacker spy, since it removes the leverage the blocker needs. Cover 3 sky or Cover 4 shells with an alert flat defender can sit on this concept, so avoid calling it into defenses that have shown quick outside diagnosis on previous snaps.

Throw this quickly, do not hold the ball because the play lives and dies on timing before the defense can react and swarm the screen side.
Use this against defenses that show Cover 2 or Cover 3 shells with soft corners playing off, since the cushion gives your blocker time to get outside and turn the play upfront.
Bait blitz-heavy defenses by calling this after they have shown pressure on early downs, the extra rushers only help since they are running themselves out of the play.
Pair this with Stick or Smash from the same Ace Slot set to keep the defense honest between quick outside throws and intermediate route combos, forcing linebackers to hesitate on run/pass reads.
