Overload 3 Seam Press is a Cover 3 zone blitz out of the Dime 3-2-6 set that sends four rushers to one side (the overload) while dropping the rest into a three deep, four under zone shell. Both outside corners press at the line and sink into deep thirds, the free safety in the middle rotates over the top as the deep middle third, and the underneath defenders (the two hook/curl zones plus the two flat defenders) flow to their landmarks while the extra rusher off the overload edge attacks the backfield. This is a zone blitz designed to disguise pressure and bait quick throws into the shrinking underneath zones, with the primary read being the overload edge rusher forcing a quick decision before the quarterback can find a soft spot in the buzzing zone defenders.
Watch the offensive line slide protection pre-snap, if they slide toward the overload side the free rusher is picked up and you need a spy or contain plan on the backside. Key the quarterback's eyes immediately after the snap since hot routes and quick slants are the primary counter to the overload pressure, so underneath zone defenders need to snap their heads to shallow crossers fast. This beats offenses that rely on five or six man protection with no answer for the extra rusher, and it also disrupts man beater route combos since press corners disrupt release timing on the outside. It struggles against RPOs and screens to the overload side, since the aggressive rush can be manipulated with a bubble or tunnel screen if the offense recognizes the blitz pre-snap. Watch for user-controlled receivers sitting down in the vacated hook zone behind the blitz, that void is the first place a smart quarterback will attack.
Call this on early downs or third and medium when you expect the offense to attack with quick game or spread concepts, since the overload rush forces a fast throw. Check the pre-snap protection numbers, if the offense only has a running back and no extra blocker to the overload side, this blitz wins immediately off the edge. Use the press corners to disrupt quick outs and speed outs on the perimeter, forcing receivers off their timing before the underneath zones settle. Pair this with Cover 3 Cloud or Cover 3 Buzz Match on early downs to keep quarterbacks guessing between static Cover 3 drops and this disguised overload pressure. If the offense audibles into empty or spreads four plus receivers, consider switching to Hot Blitz 3 or Edge Blitz 1 from this same set to keep bringing pressure without exposing the same overload look twice in a series.
