Overview
NFL Live Dolphins Defense is functionally identical to its sibling cut, Dolphins Defense. Both books carry the same 308 plays across the same 9 formations and 20 sets, with zero set differences between them. There is no hidden package or extra blitz family waiting in one version and not the other, so the choice between the two comes down to which entry you want sitting in your playbook list. Anything you learn in one transfers snap for snap to the other.
What you are actually getting is a sub-heavy, coverage-first book with a pass rush built out of the nickel. Nickel accounts for 121 plays (39%) spread over 6 sets, which is the widest set variety in the playbook and the place where nearly every Cover 1, Cover 3 Match and Corner Blitz concept lives. Dime adds another 39 plays (13%) across 2 sets, and the 3-3-5 contributes 36 plays (12%) for light-box, five-man-front looks. Add the 24-play 4-2-5 Big Nickel package and you are looking at a book that spends roughly two thirds of its snaps in five and six defensive back personnel. Base 4-3 (36 plays, 12% across 3 sets) and 3-4 (18 plays, 6%) exist, but they are support formations here, not the foundation.
The real selling point is the 2-5, a 15-play formation that only appears in 12 of the game's 236 playbooks. That is a five-man-front, two-down-lineman oddity most opponents have never lined up against, and it gives you a Casino Blitz type pressure look with unfamiliar rushers. Combined with Goal Line Defense (13 plays across 3 sets) and a 6-plays Prevent package for end of half situations, the game plan this book supports is simple: live in Nickel, man up or Cover 3 Match on early downs, and pull out the 2-5 or Dime pressures when you need a specific answer. At 308 plays this is a mid-sized defensive book, larger than 16% of the game's 64 defensive team playbooks, so you get breadth in the sub game rather than depth in the base fronts.
Scheme Fit
This book wants defensive backs above everything else: three quality cornerbacks with high press and man coverage ratings, plus a free safety you can user with real speed and play recognition, because 39% Nickel and 13% Dime means your fifth and sixth defensive backs are effectively starters. You also need at least one edge rusher who can win one on one with finesse moves, since the 2-5 and 3-3-5 pressures send four or five and count on someone beating a blocker rather than schemed free runners. Pick NFL Live Dolphins Defense if you are a user-heavy player who likes living in sub personnel, disguising Cover 1 and Cover 3 Match out of the same shell, and pulling out a rare front for situational pressure. Pass on it if your roster is built around big linebackers and you want a developed base 4-3 or 3-4 run-stopping package.

Strengths
- Six Nickel sets across 121 plays means you can keep the same personnel on the field and rotate between completely different alignments, so your opponent gets no pre-snap read off the huddle. Build your audible package entirely inside Nickel and you can flip from Cover 1 Contain to a Corner Blitz without a substitution tell.
- The 2-5 is a genuine scheme advantage because it only appears in 12 of the game's 236 playbooks. Casino Blitz out of an unfamiliar five-man front gives you rush lanes most players have never had to block, and the front can be shifted and pinched pre-snap before they diagnose it.
- Cover 1 and Cover 3 Match concepts are both well represented, which lets you run the same shell disguise and branch late. Pre-snap you can show the same two-high look, then rotate into Cover 3 Sky or drop into man and user the free safety over the top.
- Dime (39 plays, 2 sets) and Big Quarter 3-1-7 personnel give you real third down and two-minute answers instead of forcing you to base down into 4-3. That matters against four and five wide sets where a base linebacker gets isolated in the slot.
- The 3-3-5 block at 36 plays gives you light-box LB Blitz and Safety Blitz pressures with five defensive backs already on the field, so you can blitz without conceding a coverage mismatch.
Weaknesses
- Only 36 plays in 4-3 across 3 sets and 18 in 3-4 means this book is thin against heavy personnel. A committed opponent running two tight end and fullback sets can grind you down because your base fronts are an afterthought here, not a developed package.
- Goal Line Defense is just 13 plays across 3 sets, which is a small menu for short-yardage and red zone stands. Once an opponent sees your two or three preferred goal line calls, they know exactly which side the pressure is coming from.
- The blitz inventory leans heavily on Cover 1 and man coverage behind it (Corner Blitz, Safety Blitz, LB Blitz). Opponents who hot route drags, pick concepts and mesh route combos will beat the man calls, and there is no deep two-high coverage family listed to fall back on.
- With 39% of the book in Nickel, high-level opponents will simply assume five defensive backs and attack the run with zone and stretch plays at your light box. You have to manually shift and crash the line to compensate.
- Cover 4 is listed but shallow relative to the man and Cover 3 volume, so you lack a deep quarters staple for two-minute drill defense beyond the 6-play Prevent package.
Usage Tips
Make Nickel your home formation and load your audible package with two or three of its 6 sets. Use the man coverage calls like 1 Double Wr1 on second and medium to bracket the opponent's best route runner, and keep Cover 1 Contain for third and long when you need the quarterback boxed in.
Reach for the 2-5 on third and 4 to third and 7. Casino Blitz out of a front only 12 playbooks in the game carry is your best surprise pressure, and it works best before your opponent has seen it twice in a series.
Save Dime for third and 10 plus and for the final two minutes of a half. With 4-1-6 and Big Quarter 3-1-7 personnel available, you can play 60 Half Out style coverage without exposing a linebacker to a slot receiver.
Use 3-3-5 on second down after a short gain. The LB Blitz and Safety Blitz concepts in those 36 plays let you send five without losing your fifth defensive back, and you can shift the front pre-snap to bait a protection slide.
Keep 4-3 and 3-4 in your package specifically for obvious run downs and short yardage, since they are only 36 and 18 plays respectively. Call Goal Line Defense inside the two yard line and nowhere else, and leave Prevent for a one-play situation with under ten seconds on the clock.
